Plain-English summary: PYM is committed to making both our website and our programs usable by everyone. If something isn't working for you or your player, tell us — we'll fix it.
1. Our Commitment
Profound Youth Movement is committed to ensuring that our website and programs are accessible to people of all abilities. We believe basketball development should be available to every player who wants it — regardless of physical, cognitive, or technological barriers.
2. Standards We Aim For
This website is designed to align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities, including:
- Visual impairments (low vision, color blindness, blindness)
- Hearing impairments
- Motor and dexterity limitations
- Cognitive and learning differences
3. What We've Built In
- Semantic HTML — proper use of headings, lists, and landmarks so screen readers can navigate
- Keyboard navigation — all interactive elements (links, buttons, forms) are reachable via keyboard alone
- Alt text on photos and logos so screen readers can describe imagery
- Color contrast — text meets or exceeds WCAG AA contrast ratios against our dark navy backgrounds
- Responsive design — site works on phones, tablets, and screen magnifiers
- Form labels — all registration form fields have proper labels for assistive technology
- No flashing content — we avoid animations or flashes that could trigger seizures
4. Known Limitations
We're a small organization and are continuously improving. Currently:
- Some decorative graphics may not yet have full alt-text descriptions
- The PYM Shooting Lab Excel workbook (a separate downloadable product) follows Microsoft Excel's accessibility features but has not yet been independently audited
- Embedded Google Map on registration page may have limited screen-reader functionality (Google's product, not ours)
5. Program Accessibility
Beyond the website, PYM strives to make in-person programs accessible. If your player has specific accessibility needs — mobility, sensory, cognitive, or otherwise — please contact us before registration so we can plan accommodations together. We've worked with players across a wide range of abilities and backgrounds.
6. Tell Us When Something Doesn't Work
If you encounter accessibility barriers on this site or have feedback on how we can improve, we want to hear from you. Reach out:
- Email: profoundym@gmail.com (subject line: “Accessibility”)
- Phone/Text: 347-882-5439
When reporting an issue, please include:
- The page or feature that's not working
- What assistive technology you're using (screen reader, keyboard, etc.)
- What you expected to happen and what actually happened
We aim to acknowledge reports within 5 business days and address fixable issues within 30 days.
7. Ongoing Work
Accessibility is not a one-time project. As PYM grows and we add new pages, programs, and features, we re-evaluate against WCAG standards and incorporate feedback from users.
